Borneiras House

The pronounced slope of the plot, which is oriented towards the south, and the imposing extension of vineyards that extend as far as the eye can see, constituted the main conditioning factors of the project.

The house tries to integrate into the vineyards, adapting its shape to the topography and preserving the scale of the neighboring constructions. The building is articulated in two terraced volumes that are arranged perpendicularly to each other, overlooking the plantations.

Access to the house is from the upper part of the plot, which provides an overview of the surrounding vineyards. The green roof seeks to integrate the architecture with the landscape, also minimizing the impact of the intervention.

The stone base puts the house in contact with the place. The broken geometry of the project and its adaptation through several levels to the topography allows the creation of small nooks and crannies that evoke the essence of traditional Galician architecture.

The main rooms of the house are located on the lower level, which is completely open to the sun and the vineyards. The house breaks its orthogonality in its south facade to increase its amplitude and capture more natural light.

The interior space extends towards the landscape through the horizontal planes of the porch and terrace. The integration with the environment is completed thanks to the sheet of water of the infinity pool that finally meets the sky.

The massive walls of wild granite emerge above the roofs, in contrast to the horizontality of the rest of the house. The masonry is built with “a hueso” joint as is traditional in the popular architecture of the area.

The openings are sized according to their orientation, allowing for the illumination needed in each room. The frames of the carpentry are hidden, helping the house to fully participate in the environment.

The staircase works as a vertebral element of the house articulating the different levels. Its strategic position between the day area and the night area allows to reduce the circulations, optimizing the space.

The elevated position of the living area over the vineyards ocean allows to enjoy the incomparable environment from a privileged perspective, making every moment of the day special.
