AS RUBAS | ILLA DE AROUSA
The Rubas house is located in Illa de Arousa, in an area with exceptional views of the estuary. The very thin and longitudinal plot of land conditioned the solution adopted.
Extending the espace
The spaces are staggered in plan, seeking the best orientation towards views and sunlight. The opening of the windows in the corners reinforces this idea, while helping to extend the space and break the more compact character of the original volume.
The building is organized in two parts, housing and garage, separated by a service courtyard. This arrangement is clearly visible on the outside.
Materiality
A kind of brown granite, very characteristic of the area, has been used for the construction of the building, with large pieces, vertical format and bush-hammered finish.
Horizontality
The overhangs cover the openings and accentuate the horizontal character of the house, as well as the inside-outside relationship, framing the views of the surroundings.
Organization
The organization of the house is developed on two floors. The first floor houses the day area, while the upper floor houses the night area.
The main rooms of the day area are arranged in a staggered manner, extending the space towards the exterior.
Contrast between the finishes
The interior has been finished in white for carpentry and coverings, seeking to generate luminous spaces, while the flooring and singular elements, such as the staircase, have been finished in dark shades of wood.
The layout of the building on the plot allows maximum use of the site and an appropriate relationship with the surroundings. The house is conceived as a shelter with a stony character that rises to look out over the estuary.
