CóMARO | OURENSE

Cómaro

CóMARO House is located on a hillside of the Miño river, in the proximity of the city of Ourense. This location offers privileged views of a significant part of the river basin and a great connection with the surrounding natural environment.

The design of the house seeks to carefully adapt to the steep slope of the terrain, while integrating harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. To achieve this goal, conventional boundaries are challenged by burying part of the house, with the purpose of preserving the natural beauty of the area and ensuring maximum privacy and efficiency.

Special care has been given to the aesthetics of the house to ensure its integration into the surrounding environment. The choice of materials, colors and shapes has been made in order to minimize any negative visual impact, therefore achieving perfect harmony with the surrounding nature. This allows the house to merge organically with its surroundings, seeking a pleasant and respectful experience with the landscape.

The access to the house has been planned with the aim of reducing its visual impact from the outside. To achieve this, a discreet entrance has been designed from the roof level, which integrates with the rest of the design and facilitates a smooth transition to the interior of the house.

The partially buried layout of the house offers significant benefits in terms of thermal efficiency. The roof acts as a natural insulator, helping to retain heat in winter and keep it cool in summer. In addition, other design strategies have been implemented to further improve its energy efficiency.

The south orientation of the house maximizes the entry of natural light and views of the Miño River, creating a bright and welcoming interior environment. This layout also reduces dependence on artificial lighting, contributing to energy efficiency and highlighting the beauty of the natural landscape.

The swimming pool is conceived as an integral part of the design of the house. Its organic form and strategic location in the landscape complement the surrounding architecture, creating a relaxing space in continuity with the natural environment.

The stone and concrete that make up the walls blend perfectly into the surrounding landscape. These elements not only fulfill a structural function, but also contribute to strengthening the connection between the house and the way it is implanted in the terrain.

The interior spaces of the house are designed to maximize the connection with the exterior. Three courtyards flood the interior of the home with light and nature, creating a sense of openness and fluidity that invites one to enjoy the natural surroundings at all times. The planted vegetation reinforces the contrast between the vertical and the horizontality of the home.

Wood is used to add a sense of warmth and comfort to the interior spaces, reinforcing their integration with the environment.

CóMARO House, from its privileged location, is conceived as a refuge that invites its residents to contemplate the beauty of the landscape and enjoy their relationship with nature.
