Cerdedo

A group of three traditional buildings had to be adapted to contain two independent and interconnected houses. Its historical value involved the conservation of the volumetry and facades.

Harmonizing the complex

The work focused on interior reorganization to meet the new needs of the occupants, as well as on the exterior treatment of the three buildings, unifying the criteria of the intervention in order to harmonize the whole complex.

The facades were cleaned, eliminating all the elements that detracted from the character of the original construction, leaving in essence the masonry and stone masonry walls with the pre-existing openings.The roof solution was also unified and the carpentry was replaced in order to reduce its presence in the final appearance, increasing the entrance of natural light.

Respecting the essence

In the interior, we tried to respect the essence of the original space by maintaining and repairing the stone masonry. On the other hand, the interior structure of wooden beams and pontoons was renovated because of its poor state of preservation, keeping its framework.

Visual relationship

The staircase responds to the initial condition of preserving the independence of the two houses, but allowing their connection. Its metal structure, favored the visual relationship between the different rooms.

The structure of the staircase itself, based on light-permeable bars, works as a handrail and allows the staircase to be lit from the upper floor.

The mortar joints of the masonry were repaired with a color more in line with the original tone of the stone to unify its appearance, taking special care in the encounter with the trims of the openings.
